Hmm, It's not working for me either. I'll fix it.

Ediy: Ugh, The file exceeds the 500k attachment limit on these boards (out of my control). But I do have the file on my hard drive. I can E-mail it to you if you'd like. Otherwise you can wait until I Revise it and post the new version.

yeah, TMSTKSBKs network that is hosting the file has been having problems the last few days. I'm not sure when it will be back up.

godfood- 12-28-2005
I'm working on revising it as we speak (Grammer fixes, and making it easier to follow.) I will post it as soon as I'm done.

XmlQuest4Dummies

Hello, I am new here and trying to learn how to make quest with XMLs.I followed the link ect and tried to do "XmlQuest 4 Dummies" but when I finished and clicked talk all she will say is "Yes" is there a FAQ or trouble shooting section? and what if you want them to bring you something back rather than just kill something?

Sorry to ask so much on my first post and all but I think I am about as dumb as someone can get so if there is a way to not understand something I will find it..lol ...

ArteGordon- 01-30-2006
try testing it as a player by using the StaffCloak. The npcs will not respond to staff by default and you may not have changed the TriggerAccessLevel that allows them to do so.

If you want them to return something to the npc you can use the GIVE objective instead of the KILL objective. You could also use the COLLECT objective if you just want them to gather the item(s) instead of actually returning it to a specific npc.

Ok I have it all set I think but the collecting part...here is what I have

you go kill this monster and get a package to bring back to Sandra..
I used this

GIVE/<questholder/name/Find and kill the Tiderc Darc/notestring/I need that package. Find him and kill him/objective1/Give,Sandra's Package,1/autoreward/true/rewardstring/@bag/ADD/FinestSilkCloak

the reward is a silk cloak ...I went and killed..got the package..and came back..I tried to drop it on her ..no...I tried collect on the gump from the book...no

the book shows this
Give,Sandra's Package,1 (players read the item this way)

I tried

Give,SandraPackage,1 ( the script reads it this way )

nothing happens either way ..please adivse as to what I am doing wrong?

you need to use GIVE in the quest objective string instead of Give. The keywords for xmlspawner are always all caps.

Also notice that the syntax for the GIVE quest objective is

GIVE,mobname,itemtype[,count][,proptest]

or

GIVENAMED,mobname,itemname[,type][,count][,proptest]

so you need to specify the name of the npc as well as the name or type of item to be given.

Thanks soo much I got it to work properly now...

I noticed in another thread the person asked about the book falling to the ground and not going in the pack of the player?? how can I make it where mine also goes in the back pack and not on the ground?

1 other thing..if a player changes their mind and decides not to do the quest how do they remove the book? I can not seem to place it in the garbage nor lay it down....

I warned ya I am prolly the dumbest of people trying to learn this...

Thank you for your time. I am soo excited to have made it this far already
