This is a basic intro to XmlFind, and in no way is to be considered a complete documentation on the usage of this search feature. I will cover quite a bit of it, but definitely not all of it. (everything I'm covering is pretty much everything you'll need to be able to find most objects in most situations.)
Despite this being in the tutorials, this is actually more like a visual documentation on the xmlfind gump. I will explain what each piece does, and it's up to you to put together a search that will find what you're looking for.

When you first use the [xmlfind command, you only see the stuff to the left of the red section, so I'll explain that part first. I'll explain them in what I consider the order of importance.
Before I get to the colored sections... I want you to notice the button marked Search that is located between the Green and Yellow locations. THAT button makes the whole thing work. (you'll never find anything if you don't search.

)
Purple:
when -Type- is selected, the text box below it is used to specify the type of item to search for. (defaults to xmlspawner if no parameter is passed to the [xmlfind command)
Property Test can be used for evaluations. For example...
Hue = 1150 & map ! felucca | z < 82
(hue is 1150 and it's not in felucca, OR it's z is less than 82)
Name is awesome, you can put in a word, and it will find the things with that word ANYWHERE in the name. Capitalization does not matter.
If you use attatchments, you can use attatchment to search for objects with the attatchment on them. The shard I work on doesn't use attatchments, so I haven't used this much.
the last little area is the most useful when looking through spawners.
When entry is checked, it will search a spawner to see if it's spawning the item type you put in the box.
When entry AND type are checked, you can search the sub-types of the entry. (for instance, putting ITEM in the box would show you every spawner that spawned an ITEM... most spawners only spawn mobiles)Green:
this area lets you select the maps to search in.
Internal is where everyone goes when they logout, and where stabled pets go.
Null is typically never supposed to happen as far as I know. (I've never found anything in null)Yellow:
These are sort options. You use this after you have a list of results already.
The arrow at the top lets you reverse the order it sorts in.
The rest are pretty self explanatory, except for Range and Select.
Range sorts it by distance from your location.
Select brings all the ones you have selected together.Red:
These are your search results, The green text below this area tells you how many things it found, and which ones you're viewing.
The first three buttons for each spawner are labeled at the top... but I'll explain them just in case.
Gump opens the spawner gump... it's as if you had gone to the spawner and double clicked it.
Props acts like you used [props on the item.
Goto brings you to the item.
Now, for the information display, the only thing I think might be confusing is where it says "Owner"... what it means by owner, is what container it is located in. If it is on the ground in world, then the owner is blank and the entire info entry for that item appears in black text.
if the owner is a player (worn by them, or in their backpack or bank) then it tells you the player name, and the entire entry is in orange text.
If the owner is a mobile, then it tells you the mobile name, and the entry is pinkish
If it's in a container in world, then it's a light blue color, and the container name is shown.
To the right of the info area is a little checkbox you can use to select one item at a time. At the VERY TOP corner is a checkbox that lets you toggle every item on the page being viewed (check become unchecked, and unchecked become checked). and the very bottom, is a checkbox marked Select All... which select every item on every page.Blue:
This lets you change pages using the < > buttons, or you can go to an entry of your choosing by typing in the number in the "display" box. (the highest number you can choose is 1 less than how many it found.)Now for the things that aren't colored, and I haven't mentioned.
The things between Purple and Green are simply more search options. Range of course means distance from your location... so if you want to search for something in a pile of junk next to you, then put range 3 (or 0 if you know you're standing on top of it or it's in your pack/bank)
Age searches for things younger or older than the time you specify (depending on which direction you turn the eval symbol)
Region searches for things in a specific region... to get the region name of where you're standing... use the [where command. It will say "Your region is *." The region name includes spaces sometimes. (or you can use [xmlget region to find the region. It won't add "the town of" or "the dungeon" in front of the name)
Everything uncolored at the bottom is used on selected items.
Bring puts the item AT YOUR FEET. (which is a bad idea if there's players around and the item can be picked up)
Return puts you back where you were before you used any of the goto buttons.
Delete deletes the item... only do this if you're sure it's the right item.
Reset is for xmlspawners... it deletes all the spawns and turns off the spawner.
Respawn is also for spawners, but it deletes all the spawn, makes new ones, and then stays active.
Save To File stores all the selected stuff on disk. It's a good way to transfer spawners from one server to another.
Command lets you perform a command on all the selected items at the same time. It's similar to using he [global command because you can affect items over the entire world. When you put a command in the text box, you don't put a [ in front of it. (spaces don't work properly for text strings. so trying to do
set name "I hate cheese" would result in naming the thing
"I instead, and it would tell you property hate not found.)
That's pretty much it... now you just need to practice with it so your mind puts things together. You won't believe how easy it is to find things once you're use to using xmlfind.
