Level System As you will know if you have played UO before, it is based on a skill gains system where through repetition of a task, your skill increases. This system really got on my nerves because it allowed "macroers" the chance to be much better than anyone else. UOE will be level-based, much like WoW or Diablo. You will gain experience or "EXP" points through killing monsters, doing quests and various other activities. EXP points will then allow you to "level up" to a max level of 50. Your current progress to the next level is displayed through a blue bar which you can place anywhere on your screen. Each time you level you will be automatically allocated Stat points (Strength, Intelligence and Dexterity) according to your Class. However these stats have been changed significantly in the way they relate to combat, the specifics of which I will not make public Tongue You also get given Skill Points at each level, which you can allocate towards improving your various skills through a gump. Leveling up makes you stronger in combat, gives you access to better weapons and armour and, for the caster classes, new spells. Skills Each Class is allocated 6 skills. Non of which are redundant. I have removed or introduced new skills where I believe an old skill to be pointless, such as begging. Each of your skills will directly affect the usefulness/strength of your character Tradeskills will also be included. Each class can have 2 Tradeskills, which will gain through repetition just like the old skill gains system, except the rate will be much faster. Your allowed skill gain is linked to your level, in other words you need to achieve a certain level before you can train more of your Tradeskill. Tradeskills are things such as Blacksmithy, that allow you to create weapons and armour, or Mining, which allow you to gather resources used to make items. All Tradeskills are directly linked to a combat outcome, where as the other skills like carpentry which is used to make furniture, are free skills for anyone to use. Classes 9 of them. not much more that I want to say about them other than to say that I have spent a lot of time ensuring that they are as balanced as is humanly possible, with special attention being paid to caster Classes. Other Stuff - Weapons and armour will be Class and level dependent, the damage system has been significantly changed - There will be both NPC based, and GM run quests. - Loot groups are being revised and linked to the level system - Monsters may be as high as level 150, requiring a party of people to conquer. - Party based hunting is rewarded with bonus EXP, and the party/level system works such that you are not restricted to friends who a similar range, you may hunt with noobs with no consequences. However this will not allow you to power level noobs, they will be given exp based on their level. - Fully PvP shard, but there are checks in place to ensure you cannot kill someone that is too far below your level, unless they attack first. Careful checks in place to ensure PvP is not abused (carefully placed Res-Timers etc.) - I have added code to allow you to "book" a monster that you are fighting with. This means that nobody can "steal your kill" unless you leave the monster. - You cannot lose your items!!!! I didn't like this aspect of UO, you now have various options upon ressurecting, including retrieving all your items at a monetary cost etc, or battling it out to retrieve your corpse, however when the corpse decays you do not lose your items (I will give more info on this system during beta) - PvP specific arena's and betting area's. duel, challenge and generally inflict pain on your friends *wot fun* - Customized artifacts, monsters and more - We are using Knives Chat system... its a very cool ingame chat system that lets you talk to friends in channel, regions, trade areas, send private messages or even chat directly to our IRC channel from ingame. - Lots of new ideas being developed everyday, and that will continue when the shard is up. So lots of things are in the pipeline. I would estimate about 75-80% of the above mentioned systems are in place and working, its a case of finishing a few off and tweaking. After which we're ready to go to beta testing. Hosting is all sorted. What do I need? Staff - I have a group of very able staff, but I am looking for some more. I need mature people with lots of UO experience and enthusiasm. Contact me here if you are interested. Beta testers - experienced UO players (between 10-15) that I can use and abuse to test the various systems for me during beta. These people will not be staff but will be rewarded when the shard goes live. Contact me. |
