Due to the problem of XmlSPawner entry-books with runuo 2.0...
I think a text entry gump could be very usefull instead of books.
This may be usefull to see all the text in the entry in one time and to edit in a really simple way part of the text.
unfortunately, text entry gumps in UO are restricted to no more than about 230 chars and do not support the mouse (in the 2d client).
This is a client limitation so there is no way around it.
The early versions of xmlspawner actually used those gumps (the code can still be enabled), but they were replaced with books as the only way to enter long strings.
I just love the books because you can edit it in the middle of the line... most text gumps in UO don't allow you to do that. (which really pisses me off when I'm answering pages, and I notice I misspelled something in the first sentence.)

yeah, that was one of the key reasons for using the book instead of regular gumps. Unfortunately, I havent found any other alternatives.
For example, bulletin boards are another client feature that supports a reasonable text entry interface that doesnt require multiple pages like a book, but it doesnt allow you to start with any initial text.
Maybe when the new client comes out with Kingdom Reborn there will be new options, but that isnt going to be for a while.
I'll look into the quirky behavior of the books under 2.0. I'm guessing that it has to do with changes in packet handling and optimization.
From the preview pics I saw in the UOKR site (which I can't locate now) it looks like a majorly updated 3D client. If that's the case, then there might not be many people who want to use the KR client. (which I think you will have to buy to get the update anyways)
there's 2 major reasons I prefer the 2D client.
1) Custom Graphics
2) EasyUO
Custom graphics I can live without... expecially since the graphics of KR look so awesome.
EasyUO on the otherhand... I use that for a great deal of things. I made an euo script to auto-shrink ANY pet in sight so I wouldn't have to do it manually. It was a great help when we were running a no-pet event. It instantly shrank pets as soon as people unstabled/unshrank them. They didn't even have time to say "all kill"... one of them said... "all kiWTF?!"
