I was looking through the posts about people hiring staff, and the majority of the ones I looked at seem to be asking for people that have experience making quests.

Personally I've never tried to make a quest... I simply spent a lot of time learning the spawner system and the xmlfind command so I could do general maintenance on the shard I worked on. The only quest I made was scripted in a cs file.

So I decided I should learn, because it'll be something good to know for when I decide to make some quests. So I head to the quest tutorial, and WOW.... The whole thing is explained as a step-by-step process, that takes up 8 screens on a 1280x800 resolution screen. That's a little insane... Sure there's a lot of large pics that spread out the text, but it's still a lot of steps.

If someone else who knows the quest system has time, I'd like to see some other possible submissions for a quest tutorial. In the mean time, I'm going to learn how to do quests myself, and if nobody makes a tutorial before I finish learning, then I'll post my own tutorial for people to consider using.

yeah, go for it. There are lots of ways of approaching it and more tutorials are always welcomed.

heh I tried to make a tutorial as simple as possible... easier said than done smile.gif But it is really worthwhile learning to do quests this way.

I didn't have time to try it last night, because it was 3:30am for me, and I had class today. So I didn't get to see how hard it was.

I'm sure it's really easy using the tutorial, but the way it's organized makes it look really difficult. That's probably why so many people are simply hiring people who know how instead of trying to learn it themselves.

What I like to do is group things into categories so people know what part of the process they're in. When I did the xmlfind tutorial, I only had one screenshot, and each group was color-coded.

I'll go see if we need an xmlfind tutorial here, and if we do I'll submit it.

Here's the tutorial. I modified it a little, because I had omitted parts that aren't used on the shard I work on, and also parts that tell staff not to use the save part.

ok I tried it, and yeah it's really easy.

I think the only problem is that it looks difficult. If I had Photoshop still, then I'd make some new pics, and re-do the layout of the tutorial. The wording is fine (except for the < thing) so I wouldn't have to change that.
